Why do you judge homosexuals?

At The Exodus Project, we do not judge anyone out of our own opinions or judgments.  And true Christians don't either.  With the Bible being our only source of absolute truth, we see that God has judged homosexuality as a sin, just as he has lying, stealing and using His name in vain.  In pointing out that God condemns certain practices, people many times assume the Christian hates them or judges them out of anger.  A Christian concerned with the state of a person’s salvation points out their error out of concern, not hate.  An unrepentant liar is in the same boat as an unrepentant homosexual.  They are both transgressing God's law.  God's word says, "the wages for sin is death..."(Romans 6:23).  One sinner is in no better position than another.  Therefore, it is regrettable that we see, in some instances, homosexuality treated as a worse sin than any other.

In situations when professing Christians hold placards high in the sky reading, 'homosexuals will burn in hell', and, 'God hates homosexuals', it should be noted that these so-called Christians are acting contrary to the very teachings they pretend to uphold.  Their actions are tantamount to hating.  What Christian yells unsympathetic threats of eternal damnation without revealing the love Christ has for that person, and that they have been made in the very image of God?  1 John 3:15 says hating is the same as murder, and that a person who hates, does not have eternal life.  The passage goes on to say in verse 18 that our actions are to display love, not hate.  Jesus himself did not come for the righteous but for the sick. (Mark 2:17) That is, Jesus came for sinners.  To show them the way to eternal life, not to simply condemn them to hell.  It's hard to imagine Jesus yelling derogatory remarks at people, condemning them to hell and walking off.  Make no mistake; Jesus confronted people's sins.  But He also showed people a loving God, who could forgive their sins.  A distinction needs to be made that Christians are to hate evil (Romans 12:9), not people.  Within the Gospel itself, we can see God's teaching, that the way to get people to respond, is through loving them, despite their sin. (Romans 5:8)

God's word does in fact condemn homosexuality. (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13, Romans 1:27-29, 1 Corinthians 6:9)  There have been attempts by liberal theologians to discount the above verses, but their arguments are extremely flimsy, and largely based on today's relativistic ideals.  The Bible is a source of objective truth, not one that bends to the whims of what society says is right and wrong from one day to the next. God is unchanging. (James 1:17) Truth is authored by God, therefore truth is unchanging.  When the Bible is read for what it says, the only conclusion one can come to is that God considers homosexuality a sin.  There is no reconciling the Bible, with homosexuality.  A Christian that lives life involved in active homosexual relationships as if it were not a problem, is a contradiction.  Having said that, a true Christian can be struggling with homosexuality, but the Christian knows it is a sin.  He or she will be struggling against it and will be seeking help from God and fellow Christians.  Those that try to make the homosexual lifestyle compatible with the Bible are "...twisting the scriptures to their own destruction." (2 Peter 3:16)

Someone struggling with homosexuality should find open arms when they look to the Christian community.  They should find people ready to help, offer encouragement and support and point them to their Savior.  There are many that have overcome the chains of homosexuality, with the help of people who care, and ultimately, the strength of God. (Philippians 4:13)
